- 1/2 oz. medium grade wool
- Masking tape
- 30 inches wool starter yarn
Instructions
-
-
1
Apply a piece of masking tape to the whorl, drawing an arrow on the tape in the direction you will be turning.
-
2
Purchase ready-to-spin wool or make your own in the color of your choice.
-
-
3
Pull a piece of wool from the bundle. The piece should be around 4 or 5 inches long and 1/2 inch wide.
-
4
Tie the separated piece of wool around the long side of the spindle shaft, near the whorl.
-
5
Turn the spindle in the direction of the arrow, wrapping the yarn around the shaft.
-
6
Pull the pieced yarn through the hook at the top of the spindle, using one hand to rotate the spindle and drop the twist. With your other hand, grip the unspun fiber to navigate it into position.
-
7
Spin the spindle in the direction of the arrow, allowing the starter piece to twist in the yarn and allowing it to overlap. Pinching the fiber and yarn together, the twist will flow out, creating yarn.
