Pole dancing was once reserved for the privacy of Gentlemen's clubs. Today, pole dancing is sweeping the nation in some of the top name fitness clubs. It offers a varied type of cardio, instead of the normal step and aerobic classes. What makes learning to pole dance enticing to women is that it is a sexy workout. It makes them feel sensual and provocative as well as alluring and beautiful.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Open mind
  • Comfortable clothing
  • Sturdy dance pole
  • Area with enough room to move freely around the pole
  • Music. Something slow but motivating and enticing
  1. Step 1

Face the dance pole and allow your strongest hand to glide up and down the pole's surface before grasping it. Center yourself mentally. Then take hold of the pole, extending your arm straight out, your hand grasping the pole at head level. Place your inner foot securely at the base of the pole.

  2. Step 2

Allow the music to consume you. Let your body move into its own shape, your hips swaying, moving side to side.

  3. Step 3

Let your body arch, your weight leaning back, and your hand still having a secure grasp around the pole. Your body is now hanging away from the pole. Move your body in an "S" fashion and let it sway sensuously to the music's tempo as you become one with its melody.

  4. Step 4

Bring your body back to a straightened position, your hand still grasping the pole. Step around the pole slowly, keeping your outer leg straight and in a swinging motion let it swing out to the side, pivoting on your inside foot, allowing your knee to bend slightly as you make your turn.

  5. Step 5

Return to your starting position, swaying your hips in unison to the music, then bring your dominant leg up and hook the pole. Slowly run your leg along the poles surface. Lower your leg once more. Then place your outer foot down just behind the other foot. Your body should now be shifting its weight to that back foot.

  6. Step 6

Bring the inside leg back up, hooking it once more around the front of the pole. Be sure your leg has a good grip right behind its knee. Arch your body slowly. Feel how erotic each movement is, allowing your body to move in a serpent-like fashion, your mind consumed by the music.

  7. Step 7

Allow your body to use its own weight to swing around the pole as your leg stays grasped about its surface. Your hand will still have a secure hold about the pole. Finish off by arching your back deeply, or as comfortably as your body will allow, this is where flexibility comes in. Arch backwards letting your hand glide lower to allow for a deeper arch, making sure always that your leg and hand are both still gripped securely around the pole. Allow your body to slither its way down into a squatting position, your upper body arching forward before you then slither back up against the pole.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always check with your doctor to make sure your body is healthy enough to begin this type of physically demanding exercise. Though the movements are slow, each of them will be enduring on all the muscle groups as well as being a cardiovascular activity.
  • Find some music that entices your mind as well as your body. Music that will consume you and make your body want to move uninhibited and freely.
  • Learning to pole dance can come with a price; spinning, twirling and with more advanced moves such as hanging upside down from the pole using just your thighs as grip, you will be working muscles within your body you did not even know existed.
  • Never use lotions or oils on your body when pole dancing, they will make the pole dangerous and a hazard by making its surface slippery.
  • Be sure it is a real dance pole and not a toy one simply made for posing. Attempting to dance on them can result in a sever injury.
