Scriptwriting is a form of writing that's quickly overshadowing traditional fiction writing. While television, film and video continue to dominate the entertainment world, Internet video and television promise to further solidify that dominance, thus, creating a greater need for scripts. Soap operas are a popular staple of daytime television, but other forms of soaps are starting to invade prime time. Learn to write soap opera dialogue and catch the media wave.

1. Know that courses and entire programs are offered at colleges, universities and other schools on scriptwriting. Check out local schools for scriptwriting courses through regular registration as well as continuing education programs.

2. Realize that a person can't learn everything there is to know about writing screenplays, even for just one genre-soap operas-in a one day or even one week. It will take time. See that there are various ways to learn to write soap opera dialogue.

3. Understand that the best way to learn to write dialogue for soap operas is to watch and study soap operas. Abide by a writing axiom-"write what you know"-but know what you write by analyzing, embracing and understanding a topic.

6. Practice writing frequently-it's like exercising; you have to do it often to get positive results. Worry about script formatting and other guidelines later after you've developed your writing muscle.

7. Familiarize yourself with soap opera dialogue. Listen to how characters interact and to the rhythms and tones of their voices and conversations. See how they pause and react-scriptwriting is visual. Start writing like that dialogue sounds and looks-mimic conversations.

8. Purchase a book or check one out from a local library on how to format scripts. Follow examples. Know that scriptwriting software is available, which will make it a breeze to format your scripts.
