Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
Plan on a time and place to ask for the prenup. You don't want it to be a random occurrence that you haven't put any thought into. You have to be prepared for your significant other to be upset and know how to deal with the forthcoming questions. To avoid a scene, it may be best to ask at home rather than in public place.
Step2
Understand the details of the prenuptial agreement yourself so that you can answer any questions that may arise. Read it over yourself and if you have any questions, you can contact your lawyer to explain what exactly is meant by the wording.
Step3
Explain the prenup as a business agreement to protect you both financially. Do not make it a matter of trust or any other personal reason. Be honest and upfront when answering questions but do not resort to insults or any form of coercion.
Step4
Contact a marriage therapist in your area, if your fiancée is extremely upset or wants to break up because of the prenup. If you and your significant other cannot come to a peaceful agreement, the best bet is to seek help from an outside professional. A marriage therapist might be better equipped to explain the purposes of a prenup in a way that will be understood by your significant other.
