The last part of a domain name, known as the top level domain (TLD), tells you a lot about an Internet address. There are generic TLDs such as ".com" for companies, ".gov" for government and ".org" for organizations. There are also TLDs for other countries. These two letter codes are useful when registering domains in different countries.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide on the country whose domain suffix you want to find. Most independent countries have domain suffixes of their own. Not all domain suffixes are obvious as some countries have changed names or affiliations since the domain suffix was issued.

  2. Step 2

Check your regular domain registrar to see if the domain suffix that you require is available. Most domain registrars only show a small selection of international domain names.

  3. Step 3

Visit the site of a registrar that offers international domains. Some domain registrars list all the international TLDs. There may also be additional listings for countries with more than one TLD.

  4. Step 4

Browse through the list of international domain suffixes until you find the one that you want. Alternatively, search for a particular country to find the one you want.

  5. Step 5

Click on the links (if provided) to go to a registrar who offers those TLD suffixes. The site may be in a language other than English.

Tips & Warnings
  • There are restrictions on the use of some international domain suffixes. Some countries require you to base a site in that country to qualify for the international domain suffix.
