If you were trapped in a minefield how would you get out? That's the subject of this article and the answers are grounded in common sense and patience.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Stick, ballpoint pen or pencil

Step1
Step in your old footprints. This is the simplest way to get out. You're in no danger stepping on ground you've already covered.
Step2
Get a thin stick or ballpoint pen and poke it into the ground at a 45 degree angle, starting at your toes and working out. If you hit something, try to outline it by poking around its edges until you see its shape. If it is roughly land mine-sized, then poke a stick in the ground beside it so others know not to step there.
Step3
Work your way out from your toes until you can get on all fours. Once you are on your knees the whole process is more comfortable and moves quickly.
Step4
Keep poking. Every inch or so start a row of holes a little bit wider than your body. Be vigilant though. Remember each poke could be the one that finds an active mine.
Step5
Crawl out of the mine field in this manner, one inch at a time.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not ever practice this with live land mines. If you want to practice use dummy mines or short cylindrical cans.
