Few historical periods are better suited for a wedding theme than the Victorian Era. Hold your wedding in a restored Victorian bed and breakfast or a lavish rose garden. Serve a traditional Victorian tea following a morning wedding ceremony. Send your guests home with whimsical Victorian favors adorned with paper lace and dried flowers.

Instructions

    The Ceremony

  1. Step 1

Select a location steeped in Victorian history for your ceremony, such as a restored Italianate mansion, a classic Victorian home with gingerbread trim, or a lavish rose garden filled with statues and fountains.

  2. Step 2

Choose a color palate of popular Victorian colors, such as burgundy, copper or other jewel tones.

  3. Step 3

Add a Victorian touch to your invitations with embossed letters and hearts, cupids or doves.

  4. Step 4

Hand deliver the invitations, if possible, in keeping with the Victorian tradition.

  5. Step 5

Arrive at the ceremony via a horse-drawn carriage complete with a driver dressed in Victorian costume.

  6. The Reception

  7. Step 1

Keep your wedding day simple by holding the ceremony and reception in the same location.

  8. Step 2

Place bouquets of Victorian flowers throughout the reception site. Popular Victorian flowers include orange blossoms, roses, daisies, pansies and hyacinth.

  9. Step 3

Cover tables with layers of fine fabric and floor length tablecloths. Top with antique lace.

  10. Step 4

Use fine china and dainty teacups at each place setting. Feel free to mix and match china patterns.

  11. Step 5

Place black and white family wedding photos in antique silver frames, and display them on a table with the guest book.

  12. Step 6

Serve guests a selection of teas, such as Earl Grey and English Breakfast. Accompany the tea with dainty sandwiches and an assortment of bite-sized sweets, such as lemon tartlets or petit fours.

  13. Step 7

Decorate a traditional fruitcake with white frosting for a Victorian style wedding cake.

  14. Step 8

Send guests home with sweet-smelling sachets of potpourri or boxes of chocolates shaped like doves and hearts.
