Step 1
Take the essentials. A grill is a must-have as well as tables, tableware, grill tools, cooler, a portable radio or TV and trash bags for clean up.
-
Step 2
Consider the seating. Tailgate parties often become competitions, and many bring the comforts of home right to the campus parking lot. Load up your truck with couches, bean bags, camping chairs and other comfortable seating options.
-
Step 3
Plan a menu, and pack the cooler the night before. Hot dogs and burgers are football tailgate party favorites, but hot wings, submarine sandwiches and chili are other great choices. Include snacks like chips and dip, and don't forget the condiments and add-ons.
-
Step 4
Pack plenty of beer and other drinks. Check the stadium rules before you head out; some limit the type of alcohol you can have (no kegs or bottles for example). Include some non-alcoholic choices.
-
Step 5
Dress the part. You can't go too far when it comes to tailgate party attire. Paint your face and bring along the supplies to decorate your friends. Have a contest and give a prize for the craziest fan.
-
Step 6
Leave early for the stadium to get a good spot. Decorate your area with streamers, balloons, signs and other fan paraphernalia. Visit the college bookstore, party store in your area or an online retailer to stock up on team items.
