Messy crème bleach, tweezers and other archaic methods of removing facial hair have given way to permanent removal methods. These methods are available in salons and doctors' offices, and in some cases, in the privacy of your own home. The appropriate type of permanent hair removal depends on the individual's budget and the type and amount of hair he or she wants removed.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consult your doctor about laser hair removal. This is a non-surgical treatment performed on an outpatient basis by a dermatologist. The surgeon uses an instrument that sends light beams into the hair shaft to destroy it. This procedure needs to be repeated, and works best on fair skin with dark, bristly hair.

  2. Step 2

Investigate electrolysis. This involves a tiny jolt of electricity sent into the hair shaft to destroy it. Electrolysis has been available much longer than laser hair removal, and is usually offered in treatment "blocks" depending upon how much hair you need removed.

  3. Step 3

Talk to a professional about flash lamp procedures. Flash lamps, or IPL (intense pulsed light) use a spectrum of light waves instead of one wavelength like laser hair removal. It is suggested for large areas of hair growth.

  4. Step 4

Ask about electric tweezers. These instruments send an electric current through an instrument that works like a giant pair of tweezers. It is sometimes available at salons and through home-based businesses.

  5. Step 5

Try a home electrolysis kit. Home-based electrolysis works on the same principle as electrolysis offered in a salon or doctor's office. Results are not assured, however, so only choose this method if you have done extensive homework on the unit you want to buy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check your surgeon's or salon's credentials fully before agreeing to any procedure.
