How to Get an Autism Society of America Scholarship

Autism affects a person's social interaction and communication skills, and adds to difficulties for success in the world. Autism Society of America (ASA) offers scholarships to people with autism or studying autism to help them succeed. There are two types of scholarships awarded by the ASA. There is one scholarship for someone with autism and another scholarship for someone studying autism. Following are steps for applying for these scholarships.

Step1
Go to the Autism Society of America website (see Resources below). There will be a link to the Award and Scholarship page. Scroll down the page and read the definition of what the scholarship is for, how much it is for, and who may apply.
Step2
Read about the Collins Scholarship. Determine whether you fit the Collins scholarship guidelines. You must be a graduate student studying autism in a graduate or post graduate setting. You must be doing the graduate study in autism prevention, searching for a cure, or amelioration. If this fits you, move on to step 4.
Step3
Read about The CVS/All Kids Can Scholars Program. Determine whether you fit this scholarship program. You must have autism, be admitted to an accredited college, and meets all the ASA requirements. If you meet the requirements of the scholarship, move on to step 4.
Step4
Write a 500 word essay on your qualifications and education plan. Once you have written the essay, make five copies and mail it into the ASA Award Committee.
Step5
Make five copies of each of the following and mail to Autism Society of America, Award Committee, 7910 Woodmont Avenue, Suite 300, Bethesda, Maryland 20814-3067. Include your high school transcripts, proof of college admission acceptance, and two letters of recommendation to the ASA Award Committee. Include an additional documentation of autism status if applying to The CVS/All Kids Can Scholars Program.
