1
Make sure each strand of Christmas tree lights works and is not broken before putting them up for storage. There is no need to store broken lights.
-
2
Cut a square out of a cardboard box, and cut a slit into one side of the square. Slide the end of the Christmas tree lights into the slit and wrap the lights around the square. Finish by putting the last light on the strand into the slit. This keeps the lights rolled neatly.

Put each set of lights into a separate plastic bag, and close the bag. Place all of the bags into one garbage bag or large fabric shopping bag to keep them together.
-
4
Buy Christmas tree light storage containers. Containers are available to hold each strand of lights separately and then assemble together inside a large outer container. This keeps them separate from one another but in the same place so it is easier to keep track of them.
