Step 1
Stand facing your partner, separated by about 12 inches of space. Right hands are grasped and left hands are on each other's shoulders.
-
Step 2
Perform step number one of the four beat step. This quick steps consists of a rocking motion on one foot, picking up the heel slightly. Partners should use the foot on the same side for this movement, for example the woman's left and the man's right.
-
Step 3
Follow very quickly with the second step. The woman's opposite foot is then placed backwards about 6 inches while the man places his same foot forward about 6 inches.
-
Step 4
Rock again on the third step. Slightly rock the foot that is still in its original position. Pros will learn to rock both feet at once on step three, while some women will use their hips to perform the rocking motion while the feet stay still.
-
Step 5
Brings the extended foot back into its original position. This is the end of the four step process. Dancers then repeat the four steps in order, however, this time the woman's opposite foot goes forward, while the man's opposite foot moves backward.
