A great place to get Madame Alexander dolls, both vintage and modern is eBay. eBay usually has a great price for these collectible dolls and you can find listings for the harder to find Madame Alexander dolls as well. But there are some things you should keep in mind before you buy any dolls from eBay.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use the search engine feature of eBay. Typing "Madame Alexander" into the search bar will get you thousands of results. Refine your search by using the various categories to the left of your screen.

  2. Step 2

Refine your search by first clicking on the "Dolls and Bears" button on the home page. From here, click on the "Manufactures" category. Then the "Madame Alexander" category. From here you can choose from "Vintage (pre 1970)" to "Modern (post 1970)" categories.

  3. Step 3

Check the feedback score of the person you're buying from. If they have anything less than 100%, read the feedback comments. A few negative comments can be expected for veteran sells, but negative comments from the last six months about shipping or the item itself shouldn't be ignored.

  4. Step 4

Read the descriptions carefully. Madame Alexander dolls should be in their boxes, hang tags should be attached, and the doll should be from a smoke-free and pet-free home. A doll that hasn't been displayed would be ideal. If the doll doesn't have these things, you should get a discount in the price.

  5. Step 5

Ask the seller lots of questions. Questions asking about dust, sun-fading, placement of accessories, whether the eyes open and close are all great to ask. Make sure you don't ask these questions at the last moment though, so the seller has a chance to respond to your message.

  6. Step 6

Look at the pictures of the listed dolls carefully. Look for sun-fading, tears in the lace, missing shoes or accessories and messed up hair—especially if the seller is claiming the doll is mint.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not bid on any doll that doesn't have a picture in the listing; it's too easy for the seller to claim ignorance about dust damage or missing accessories.
