A playroom for a girl is easier to decorate than a boy's playroom. There are numerous themes and styles available for girls, while only a handful of designs are for boys. The main objective should be to decorate the playroom in a fashion that will suit the girl for several years.

From Quick Guide: Build a Playroom
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Brainstorm ideas with your daughter. She will likely respond better to the playroom makeover if you include her in the process. Find out if there are any particular colors or themes that appeal to her.

  2. Step 2

Choose a basic theme. Classic decorating styles last longer than trendy styles. A fairy themed playroom or an aquatic theme are simple looks to create and are unlikely to go out of style.

  3. Step 3

Use soft colors. A soft pastel palette can create a sweet playroom for a girl. Pinks, purples and yellows are all good choices.

  4. Step 4

Use a wall border or put up a mural. Using the theme that you have chosen, decorate the walls with a self adhesive border or stencils.

  5. Step 5

Purchase wood furniture to place in the playroom. Lighter stained wood furniture matches any type of decorating style that you choose. You should buy a table and chairs, bookshelf and toy chest in a matching wood color.

  6. Step 6

Put down a throw rug. To complete the girl's playroom, put down a throw rug in the center of the room in a pastel shade.

Tips & Warnings
  • Avoid using too many cartoon characters to decorate a playroom. Although your daughter may love Dora the Explorer now, her tastes may soon change.
  • Do not purchase expensive furniture for a playroom. Opt for affordable and sturdy pieces from retailers like Ikea and Target.
