How to Get a Fishing License in Arizona

Arizona's warm desert climate offers fishermen a year long fishing season and a wide variety of fishing spots to choose from. Whether you prefer lakes, streams, creeks or even urban fishing, Arizona has it all. You'll just need a fishing pole, tackle and an Arizona fishing license, before you set out to catch a "big one."

Step 1

Determine the type of license and/or tags that you will need. The type of license and tags that you require, depends on several factors, including: your age, state of residency and the type of fishing that you want to do.
Step 2

Purchase an Arizona fishing license at more than 300 license dealers located throughout the state or at any Arizona Game and Fish Department office. You can download a list of license dealers or find the nearest Game and Fish Department office by visiting the Arizona Game and Fish Department website or calling: (602) 942-3000.
Step 3

Buy a "Super Conservation Fishing License." If you want versatility on your Arizona fishing trip, this purchase will provide you with: a General Class A Fishing License, an Urban Fishing License and a Trout Stamp, and will cost you less than if you bought all three permits separately.

Tips & Warnings

Blind residents and children under the age of 14 are not required to obtain an Arizona fishing license.
Family Fishing Licenses are available at a reduced cost for married couples and families with children under the age of 18.
Arizona Pioneer Licenses are available for people who are 70 years of age and older and have lived in Arizona for at least 25 years. (This license is only available at Arizona Game and Fish Department offices.)
Special Licenses are available for Disabled American Veterans. Proof of 100% disability is required in addition to a minimum of one year Arizona residence immediately preceding the application. (This license is only available at Arizona Game and Fish Department offices.)
A valid Arizona Fishing License is required for fishing in Arizona. You must carry the license with you at all times when fishing. If caught without it, you will receive a ticket and a fine.
Arizona Fishing licenses are not available by telephone or online.
