Usborne Books at Home is a unique home-based business opportunity with a reputable company. Infants through high-school aged children will love the Usborne books you sell. Adults will love them, too. Even with little or no sales experience, you can become an Usborne Books at Home consultant.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Buy your start-up kit from Usborne. Every month Usborne makes available a start-up kit for $200.00 plus shipping and handling. The kit contains a supply of books to show and business supplies.

  2. Step 2

Start with home shows. These are informal gatherings where a hostess will invite her friends and family to her home. You can show them the books, discuss some of the best-selling ones and the hostess will earn free books based on the sales of the show.

  3. Step 3

Work as little or as much as you want. There are no monthly minimums as an Usborne Books at Home consultant.

  4. Step 4

Contact your supervisor, your sponsor or the home office if you need help when you first start out as an Usborne Books at Home consultant.

  5. Step 5

Reach certain incentives within the first 12 weeks that you are a consultant and you will be eligible for free books or to buy books at a reduced price. For example, if you recruit a new consultant during your first 12 weeks, you're entitled to $50.00 in free books.

  6. Step 6

Know that Usborne books have beautiful illustrations, are printed on sturdy acid free paper with high quality ink. They're geared specifically toward children of different ages with various interests, and Usborne books have sound educational theory behind them. You'll be amazed how well they sell themselves.

Tips & Warnings
  • Usborne often has monthly specials that will allow you to get a smaller starter kit for less or to buy the $200.00 kit at a reduced price.
  • Usborne books can be sold not only in a home setting but also to day care centers, preschools, schools or libraries. The school sponsoring the sale receives a certain percentage of sales in free books.
  • Usborne gives consultants and hostesses the ability to link an eShow to a home show, a great way to increase sales for everyone. As a consultant, you can also have your own Usborne Books at Home website for a nominal annual fee.
  • The only requirement is that you sell $85.00 worth of books during your first 4 weeks as a consultant or you'll pay more for your starter kit.
  • When you're just starting, reach out to other consultants to ask questions. Some may let you shadow them when they present books at shows.
