How to Get Past the Alarm Gates in Retail Stores

Nothing interrupts an enjoyable shopping experience like the dreaded alarm that goes off when you leave a store. Not only is it embarrassing, it also takes up valuable time as store personnel check your bags for the alleged stolen goods. Here are some easy ways to avoid such frustrating episodes.

Instructions

    • 1

Avoid wearing jewelry and bringing your car keys or cell phone into the store because they may accidentally trip the alarm.

    • 2

Ask the cashier to please be certain she removes all security stickers and tags from the items you are buying. Be polite. Explain your embarrassment over tripping an alarm during a previous visit.

    • 3

Squeeze through one of the openings between the security pillar and the wall at the entrance of the store upon leaving. Even though you may look suspicious, at least you're likely to evade the siren.

    • 4

Keep walking, even if the alarm does go off. Wear a frustrated look on your face and mutter something about dysfunctional alarms. It may help your case, but isn't entirely necessary.

    • 5

Look for another exit. In bigger stores in the mall, such as Macy's or Sears, there are doors free of alarm gates that open directly to the parking lot. Place your purchases in your car before returning into the mall for shopping at other stores.

Don't steal. Not only is it a disreputable habit, it's also illegal and a sure fire way to set off those annoying alarms.
