Having it all in today's world may mean two moms share a job so each can spend more time with their children and maintain their rung on the corporate ladder. Job sharing may even be an option for someone who is semi-retired or a student. Some employers will consider job sharing under certain situations.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Choose your job partner carefully. You need to work with someone with comparable organizational skills and work ethics.
Step2
Research and write a compelling proposal so you can show your employer the benefits of allowing job sharing. Find a sample proposal at the US Office of Personnel Management website.
Step3
Propose your idea for job sharing to your employer.
Step4
Find a shared job that is already in existence if job sharing is not an option where you currently work. Employment agencies such as Monster or Flexible Resources may be a good place to start.
Step5
Coordinate your communication with your job sharing partner. You may be sharing the same phone line and e-mail account and good communication is essential for completing tasks appropriately.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember one of you will be finishing projects for the other and dealing with the same clients and co-workers. Make lots of notes for your partner.
  • You may want to find someone who has strengths that you don't have so you can balance each other.
  • Make sure someone is responsible for following projects through.
  • Job sharers not only split the duties, but they may also split holidays and benefits.
  • Consider how your personalities may conflict.
