A menorah felt board is a fun way to teach young children about the meaning of the menorah and the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah. Because the menorah is made from felt, you won't run the risk of having open flames or sharp edges around small children. So, follow these few steps to make a menorah felt board and get your little ones involved in the Hanukkah tradition.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Get all the materials together on a flat surface. You will need some rectangular patches of felt, one of them being yellow, scissors, glue and a flat surface to cut on. Show the kids each one of the materials to get them started in the process.
Step2
Form the menorah. Out of the largest strip of felt, cut a candelabra-shaped pattern that has nine candle holders. One of the candle holders should be noticeable taller than the others and placed in the middle of the menorah.
Step3
Cut the candles. While some people like to use white felt for the candles, you can use any color you or the children choose. Allow the children to choose the color of each children to keep the activity fun for them.
Step4
Make the flames. Using your yellow felt, cut nine flame shapes for the candles. You can use a pattern to do this quickly since there doesn't need to be any variation. If you want to add a little extra detail, cut orange flames slightly smaller than the yellow ones to be placed on top of the yellow.
Step5
Add hook-and-loop tape. If you want an extra touch, make hook-and-loop backings for each of the parts. This way, you can mount the menorah board on a wall or blackboard and let the kids "light" the menorah the way it should be lighted in the Hanukkah ceremony.
