How to Make a Snow Gauge
If the snow falls frequently in your part of the world, then you need a snow gauge. Making a snow gauge is a fun project for a winter day. Your snow gauge is also a good way to keep track of snowfall while teaching your kids about weather and measurement. Your kids can be budding meteorologists, reporting snowfall totals to your local news station.

1
Remove any labels on the surface of a 2 liter soda bottle. You may need to soak your bottle to soften the label. Use dish soap and a brush to remove any glue.
-
2
Cut off the top part of the soda bottle using scissors. Keep the edges as even as possible. Make your cut at the widest part of the bottle, not at the neck.
-
-
3
Use your ruler and permanent marker to mark lines on the outside of your soda bottle in 1/4 inch segments. Start at the bottom and work your way to the top.
-
4
Draw a longer line on your soda bottle to mark each inch. Be sure to write the numbers next to each of the larger lines.
-
5
Allow your kids to decorate the bottle using different colored permanent markers.
-
6
Find a location outside for your new snow gauge and wait for the snow to fall.
