Lipstick is a fundamental part of a makeup routine. Applied after all the other makeup, lipstick adds the finishing touch that balances out your face. Lipstick can also be worn without other makeup as a little touch to brighten your look or add polish when you're in a hurry. Anyone can apply lipstick, but few know how to do it right. Even applying lipstick to medium lips requires several steps.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Line the lips. Your lips are the canvas for your lipstick. Begin by outlining what you intend to color. Using a sharp lip-liner that is close to your natural lip color, outline your lips. To add fullness to your medium lips, apply the liner just outside your natural lip line.

  2. Step 2

Fill in the lines. Using the broad side of your lip-liner tip, color in the line you just applied. Coloring your lips with the lip-liner will create a base for the lipstick to adhere to. This technique will make your lipstick last longer.

  3. Step 3

Use the lipstick. With a lip brush, carefully apply your lipstick over the lip liner. Keep the lipstick inside the outline. Using a lip brush will help you be more accurate with the lipstick placement and use less, making your lipsticks last longer. Medium lips don't require any special tricks to look even and natural.

  4. Step 4

Remove the excess. Squeeze a tissue between your lips to take off the excess lipstick. If you're using a light shade, you may want to apply a second coat of lipstick. Use the lip brush to re-apply your lipstick and then blot it again.

  5. Step 5

Apply a top coat. Finish off your look with lip gloss. You can choose shiny, super shiny or glitter gloss. The gloss coat will give your lipstick that fresh, wet look.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never go out without blotting your lipstick. It will look overdone and get on everything you touch-– glasses, napkins and cheeks.
