Step 1
Ask your network of family and friends if they know of any good recruiters, especially in your industry.
-
Step 2
Start with listings in the phone book or through an internet search if you are unable to locate a recruiter through your network.
-
Step 3
Set up an appointment with the recruiter. This gives you and the recruiter an advantage--you both know you are committed to finding you the right job.
-
Step 4
Work with more than one recruiter if possible. It is to your advantage to have more than one person shopping for your next job. If one recruiter is being especially resourceful and getting you leads and results, stay exclusively with that person.
-
Step 5
Do not pay for a recruiter's services. It is important to know this up front. The company hiring you should pay for the service.
-
Step 6
Be available. The recruiter is job hunting for you, so be prompt in replying to them. Be prepared to attend interviews on short notice.
-
Step 7
Utilize the recruiter's knowledge of companies and interview questions, but do your homework as well. By providing a list of companies you would like to work for, you will show the recruiter that you are serious about your job search.
