How to Make Homemade Bird Baths

Add a bird bath to your backyard and you'll soon be amazed at the number of winged friends that will be visiting your home. With different options to choose from, homemade bird baths can be as simple or as elaborate as you like. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Place a large clay pot saucer on the ground for one of the simplest do-it-yourself bird baths. Fill with water, and possibly some pebbles for added texture and decoration.

    • 2

Purchase two clay pots in sizes that are one step up from each other. Invert the two pots and stack on a sturdy, flat surface to form a cone shape. This builds the base of the bath. Top with a clay saucer and fill with water.

    • 3

Purchase a decorative pillar from an arts and crafts store and top it with a pan, tray or saucer that can be filled with water.

    • 4

Sit a decorative plate or open container on top of a flower garden wall to attract birds already interested in the perfumes of the blooms.

    • 5

Flip a large garbage can lid upside down. Clean it well and fill with water for an easy transformation birds will flock to.

Tips & Warnings

  • Place your bird bath in a wide, open area. Birds feel safer when predators, such as cats, can't be hiding in shrubbery or other spots near their bath.
