Mardi Gras, known as Fat Tuesday in New Orleans, is famous for its colorful decorations and outrageous festivities. If you are planning on throwing a Mardi Gras celebration, here are few ideas to help you create your very own Bourbon Street.

From Quick Guide: Mardi Gras
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Purchase Mardi Gras decorations such as streamers, beads, ribbons, hats and fake coins in the traditional Mardi Gras colors of green, gold and purple. Party stores carry a large assortment of decorations and paper supplies for Mardi Gras celebrations.

  2. Step 2

Design a banner using poster board and decorate with large, colorful letters that spell out "Mardi Gras Celebration." Hang the banner on the wall facing the guests as they walk in the front door. Use removable poster tape to fasten the banner to the wall.

  3. Step 3

Use paper tablecloths in an array of colors to cover tables. Sprinkle colorful confetti on top of the tables to add Mardi Gras color.

  4. Step 4

String the beads over lampshades and hang them from picture frames and other furniture. Cut streamers in different lengths and hang them from the ceiling using tape. Twist the streamers to add a swirling effect.

  5. Step 5

Cover the floors with different colored ribbons. This will give the effect of the shredded paper that decorates the streets of Mardi Gras during the celebration, but will be much easier to clean up afterwards.

  6. Step 6

Offer your guests Mardi Gras hats as they arrive to the party. These will be great keepsakes for them to take home to remember the celebration.
