From paintings to pictures or even mirrors, it takes a little know-how to arrange artwork on a wall. This eHow will guide you during the process.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wall hanging kit
  • Hammer or screwdriver
  • Craft paper
  • Reusable adhesive
  • Pencil or crayon
  1. Step 1

Choose the artwork you would like to hang. It should have a frame and hardware attached to aid the hanging. Some pieces may come with a wire or hook in the back.

  2. Step 2

If you're arranging a group of pictures together, lay them out on the floor or a table first so you can see what they will look like together before you make any holes in the wall. The entire group should be centered on the wall and the space between the items should be measured.

  3. Step 3

Create a paper template of each item using craft paper and place it on the wall before making any holes. Mark the template with an arrow to indicate whether it will hang horizontally or vertically.

  4. Step 4

Place your artwork on the wall, using reusable adhesive, so that the center of the artwork or grouping of artwork attains eye level. The reusable adhesive will not damage the wall or the paper template. Eye level can be a sitting eye level or a standing eye level.

  5. Step 5

Using a pencil or crayon, mark the point of insertion for your nail or anchor. The size and type of artwork will determine the type of hanger used.

  6. Step 6

Insert the hanger for the artwork using the mark as a guide.

  7. Step 7

Hang artwork on a hanger and adjust the angle until it is perfectly straight on the wall. A level can be used for precision.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you hang artwork above a sitting area, don't leave too much space between the top of your furniture and the artwork. Leaving 3 to 6 inches of space between the furniture and the artwork draws the viewer's eyes to the artwork.
  • If you are creating a group of artwork, think of the group as a single unit. Larger pieces should be the central focus and smaller pieces can be placed around the outside.
  • Always use the appropriate hangers for the item you are hanging, not just a nail. For most items, two hangers will be needed for proper support.
