How to Prevent and Treat Scarring With Emu Oil

Emu oil is often called the "Miracle from Down Under." It has been touted for years for its anti-aging qualities. Recently it has gained even more recognition for its effectiveness in treating scars. Using emu oil to reduce and prevent scarring yields wonderful results.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy 100 percent pure, refined emu oil. This oil will yield the best results.

    • 2

Massage 1 or 2 drops of emu oil into the scarred tissue 2 or 3 times daily. You can break down the tissue by massaging the scar in every direction (horizontally, vertically and in a circular motion).

    • 3

Immediately apply emu oil liberally to burns (including sunburns). It has both antibacterial and moisturizing properties that reduce blistering and scarring.

    • 4

Store your emu oil in a cool, dark place. Since emu oil is a natural oil, it will slowly deteriorate over time. It can last several months if you store it properly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Emu oil may make your skin feel greasy. Wait a few moments before wiping it off. It will absorb quickly into the skin.

  • Although emu oil can be applied at anytime, you will get the best results when you apply it shortly after a bath or shower.

  • Consult your doctor before starting any scar treatment regimen.

  • When applying emu oil to the skin, pour the oil on your hand rather than sticking your finger into the jar. This will help prevent rancidity.
