Created in 1907 by Harry Conway "Bud" Fisher, "Mutt and Jeff" was one of the first comic strips to be published daily. Originally the strip appeared in the sporting section of the San Francisco Chronicle under the name "A. Mutt."

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Enjoy the beginning of comic strips. "Mutt and Jeff" was a pioneer in comic strips. It was the first comic strip to gain popularity and make its creator wealthy. The comic strip was among the first to run daily from Monday to Saturday and have regular characters. The phrase "Mutt and Jeff," which is used to indicate a tall person and a short person who are together, was also the first phrase from a comic strip to become part of the English language.
Step2
Vote for Jeff. Jeff was the first cartoon character to run for president of the United States. Even though Jeff was certifiably insane, he began his political career in the comic strips. You can still vote for Jeff today by writing his name in on the ballot.
Step3
Buy the book, "Forever Nuts: Classic Screwball Strips The Early Years of Mutt and Jeff" by Bud Fisher. This is the first book to reprint the comic strip and was designed in part to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the comic strip. It is published by NBM and edited by Jeffrey Lindenblatt.
Step4
Collect Mutt and Jeff merchandise. The comic strip led to the creation of a few Mutt and Jeff items that are now highly collectible. Among these items are comic books, pin backs and dolls.
