Step 1
Choose bottoms that flare to balance out the larger upper half of the body. Skirts and pants with a flare add the illusion of size.
-
Step 2
Pick tops that show off thin arms to flatter this body type. Sleeveless tops and flutter sleeve tops accomplish this goal.
-
Step 3
Wear darker colors on top and lighter colors on the bottom. This minimizes the top half. Lighter colors also create the illusion of a larger bottom half, and creates proportion.
-
Step 4
Buy tops that cover the hip area. This hides the wider waist that inverted triangle body types have. It also draws the attention towards the shapely and slim legs associated with an inverted triangle body type.
-
Step 5
Try tops that have less detail. Details draw attention to the top, and will make an inverted triangle's top even more noticeable.
-
Step 6
Select knits or similar fabrics. Knits flatter because they are slightly form fitting, while still forgiving of flaws. Anything too tight will exaggerate the top half, and showcase the non-existent waist, which is not desirable.
-
Step 7
Wear shirts with large straps. Anything strapless or with thin straps will draw attention to wide shoulders. Sleeveless tops are flattering if they don't make the shoulders appear more broad with thin straps.

on 2/7/2008 Let me be the one to say, " it's about time " , that someone finally explained this particular body type. This body type gets, " no respect ", because it is the less femenine of human forms. BUT..... it has it's advantages ! Having a slimmer lower-body shape, it can wear light-colored pants and skirts very well. And that...in and of itself, says something wonderful for all of us girls and women everywhere !
