Step 1
Sweep away debris. Moving often causes grit to collect on floors, so thoroughly sweep the bathroom. By clearing away dirt and hair, you pave the way to a cleaner, sleeker bathroom.
-
Step 2
Wipe countertops and mirrors. A shining mirror can liven up any bathroom, so use a nonstreak cleaning solution or a water/vinegar mixture to polish it up. Clean countertops thoroughly to clear away any germs and grime that might cling to surfaces.
-
Step 3
Scrub the toilet. The toilet is the biggest harbinger of bacteria in the bathroom and an important area to clean when moving into a new home. Begin by pouring a cup or two of bleach or other toilet cleaner into the basin and let it soak while you clean the rest of the toilet. Use a cleaning agent to wipe down the tank and seat and all around the outside of the toilet. Don't forget to clean under the seat as well. Finally, use a toilet brush to scrub the inside of the basin, and flush the toilet to rinse.
-
Step 4
Soak the shower and tub. Tubs and showers can be a nightmare to clean, especially if the previous inhabitants let grime build up. Spray the shower and tub with cleaner and let them soak. Scrub with a sponge, brush or rag until the dirt is gone. A sprinkle of abrasive cleaning powder can help remove tub rings. Once the shower is clean, buy a shower or tub spray to help maintain cleanliness.
-
Step 5
Remember the nooks and crannies when cleaning. Wipe down bathroom walls and cabinets with a damp sponge. A disinfectant spray can be used to wipe out medicine cabinets and doorknobs for extra cleanliness.
-
Step 6
Mop the floor. Mopping should be left for last since debris and dust may fall to the floor during the cleaning process. Mop thoroughly around and behind toilets and into corners. A mixture of vinegar and water or a disinfectant additive makes an effective mopping solution.
