Get some basic information. The two main public cyber schools in Pennsylvania are Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School and the Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School, both having around 5,000 students. Both of them have information on their websites about how their cyber school operates and how to contact them for more information.

Have a family meeting. This is obviously a big decision that will affect the whole family, so the whole family must be included in the decision-making process. Try to include only your immediate family, unless grandma or grandpa will be responsible for some aspect of the schooling.

Go to an informational meeting. Both of the two largest public cyber schools in Pennsylvania have informational meetings all over the state. Here you get a chance to interact with other cyber-schooled students, learn about the details of how the school operates and talk with the teachers and staff. Most cyber school teachers love their job and are thrilled to talk to you about it.

Do your research. Find out how the school is progressing on the "No Child Left Behind" act, make sure the teachers are certified and do some general news-related searching on the cyber schools you're looking at. Make some calls to the schools as well. Find out what specific things they offer for your student as far as arts and music education, as well as what types of social gatherings you can expect.

Try it out. While it might seem you're locked into one cyber school, in Pennsylvania there are many choices in public cyber education. If you find one is not working quite the way you need it to, you can always try another. What's important is that your student gets the best education available.

Cyber school isn't only for children not succeeding in the public school setting. It may be for parents who don't want their children exposed to violence, drugs or other immoral or dangerous activities that are common in schools today.
