Instructions
  1. Step 1

Call the Admission Office. Campus tours are led by student admission representatives, who are called STARs. During a tour, the STAR shows you the campus, leads a panel discussion with current students and faculty and answers any questions you might have. You can schedule a tour most weekdays by calling (703) 556-8273.

  2. Step 2

Start in the Main Oval. The center of the Madeira School, known as the Main Oval, houses three dormitories, the Student Center and Schoolhouse I. Students relax in the Student Center, where they can eat, buy books and get their mail.

  3. Step 3

Visit the Performing Arts Center. The Chapel/Auditorium is the home of Performing Arts Center. It has a theater with professional lighting, a scene shop, rooms to practice vocal and instrumental music, a costume room and a dance studio. Also in the building is the art gallery, where current students display their work.

  4. Step 4

Watch a game at the Hurd Sports Center. The athletic program at the school includes sports and physical education classes that take place in the center. A pool, weight room, dance studio and indoor courts are part of the amenities offered in the center. You can also inspect the outdoor training areas, which include tennis courts, riding trails, a ropes course and three playing fields.

  5. Step 5

Discover the surrounding area. The Madeira School sits on 376 acres of land along a ridge that overlooks the Potomac Gorge Basin and the Potomac River. This creates a natural outdoor environment that fosters educational growth. While you walk through campus, keep your eyes open for the natural amphitheater.

  6. Step 6

End your tour by inspecting the academic facilities. There are three main areas where classes are held on campus. The first is Schoolhouse I, located in the Main Oval. In the Science Building, students perform lab work, participate in competitions and research in the photography lab. The final classroom setting is Schoolhouse II, which is home to the Academic Skills Center, a 100-seat theater-style room.
