Getting your digital pictures off your camera and onto the computer is a feat in itself, but to actually open and tweak them so that your targets no longer have the dreaded red-eye is not just an okay feat--it deserves a pat on the back. Using Digital Image Pro is an easy way to get that dreadful red-eye out of your family's eyes with just a few clicks and a little patience and know-how.

From Quick Guide: Eliminate Red Eye Easily
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Install and launch Microsoft Digital Image Pro. The time it takes, as well as the space, depends on what you want the program to install on your hard drive.

  2. Step 2

Select "File" and "Open" and then browse the directories until you find the picture you want to fix. Double-click the picture that you want or press the "Shift" key and click on the pictures you wish to edit. Click "OK."

  3. Step 3

Click "Touch Up" from the main menu at the top of the window. From the drop-down menu, select "Fix Red-Eye." Holding down the "Alt," "Shift" and "F" keys also brings up the red-eye functions.

  4. Step 4

Hit "Red-Eye Auto Fix" to have the program find and fix what it determines as red-eye. If this works completely, you are done. If the auto fix takes the red-eye partially off, you will have to manually fix the red-eye.

  5. Step 5

Drag the mouse over the exact spot that has the red-eye. Click once in each eye, and a circle will be set in that position. Click "Fix Selected Red Eyes" on the right side of the screen. If you mess up where the circles need to be, click "Reset."

  6. Step 6

Change the size and the intensity of the change you are making by sliding the arrow left and right on the bars. These are options you will want to play with and undo so that you get the best result.

  7. Step 7

Repeat and undo the process until the desired effect is reached. If at any time you want to start from the beginning, click "Cancel" at the bottom of the screen. No change is set until you save your project.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't save the project under the same name as its original filename. This way, you always have the original to edit.
  • Selecting several pictures at a time may slow your machine processing speed down. You can always select one or two, edit them and then close them and select others.
