How to Sell a Pet Scorpion

Selling your pet scorpion is always an option whether you're a breeder or just an owner who is no longer able to care for it. Identify and research your species of scorpion, list it in classified ads and wait for offers from competent, potential new owners.

1. Identify the species of scorpion you have. Correctly identifying the species helps prevent misrepresentation of the scorpion while you are advertising it to potential buyers who have decided on a particular species to own.
2. Research your scorpion's species. Note its general care requirements and humidity, heat and lighting special needs, if applicable.
3. Determine the sex and general age of your scorpion. Knowing the scorpion's age and whether it is male or female can help potential buyers determine if they are interested in purchasing the scorpion, especially if they are interested in breeding it.
4. Verify your scorpion's health. Check its appearance and behavior for signs of illness or injury. If your scorpion is ill or injured, nurse it back to health or visit an exotic pet veterinarian for advice.
5. Call pet shops that specialize in exotic animals. Inquire about your scorpion's species' availability and a possible demand for them. Ask about usual rates for scorpions like yours.
6. List your scorpion in the classifieds. Potential buyers often scout newspapers and Internet communities devoted to pet scorpion care. Include a rate and your scorpion's species, sex and age in your description. Consider offering scorpion care items in your listing as an incentive.
7. Answer any preliminary questions about your scorpion and invite potential buyers to see it. Make sure that potential owners understand the care requirements for your species of scorpion.
8. Decide on a buyer and sell your scorpion. Include the items you listed in your listing, if applicable.
