How to Get an Estimate of Social Security Benefits
Taxpayers pay into the Social Security system and, as their retirement nears, they want to be able to receive an estimate of their Social Security benefits. Read these steps on how to get your Social Security statement, and be aware of how much monthly income you can expect as you start making retirement plans.

Go to the Social Security Administrations website. Under the bolded heading "Your Social Security records" in the center of the page are 2 links: "Your number & card" and "Your Statement." Click on "Your Statement."

See the 4 blue boxes in the center of the page, and select the "Need to request a Statement?" link.

Read the Request a Social Security page containing important information regarding what your Social Security benefit statement will include, information you need to request a statement as well as information pertaining to the security of ordering your statement online.

Click on "Request a Social Security Statement" at the bottom of the screen once you read the information and feel comfortable with the security of transmitting your data online.

Enter your information in the required fields. Then go to the bottom of the page and click on "Continue." You have now requested your Social Security statement.

See the "Thank You" page that confirms that the request has been received and your statement will be sent within 4 weeks. The page also certifies that you are the one requesting your statement and that you are obtaining a report in a lawful manner. Click "Done" to confirm. You can click the "Request Another Statement" button if your spouse needs a report as well.
