Buying foreclosed houses is a great way to save money. If you are looking for a foreclosed home, don't be tempted to pay for the real estate listings. You can find free listings of foreclosed homes if you know where to look.

From Quick Guide: Buying Foreclosed Homes
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Visit the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) website at hud.gov. Here you can find all the information you need to know about buying foreclosures.

  2. Step 2

Click on "Hud Homes" under the Homes section in the left side bar. This takes you to an information page about HUD homes.

  3. Step 3

Read about how you can buy a HUD home. If you are confused about the process or want more information, click on the link to find a housing counselor. The counselor can answer all your questions.

  4. Step 4

Choose your state from the list near the bottom of the page. On the next page, you can find an external link with property listings of foreclosed homes in your area.

  5. Step 5

Return to the "Home Homes" page and select "Listings from other agencies" in the box of related information. On the next page, you can find foreclosed home listings from the Department of Veteran Affairs, IRS, Small Business Administration and several other government agencies.

  6. Step 6

Choose a few homes in your area from the various agencies. Get the contact information for each home and set up an appointment to see the houses.
