The front somersault or "front flip", is relatively easy. But you need to learn it is "backward Motion"

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • You may need a mat, small toddler mattress or large piece of foam for practicing
  1. Step 1

Before you learn, you need to be able to do front drops, back drops and tuck jumps - PERFECTLY.

  2. Step 2
    Hands and Knees
    Hands and Knees

Learn to jump on your hands and knees

  3. Step 3
Tuck hard, and roll to your back
Tuck hard, and roll to your back

From the hands and knees position - TUCK, and roll on to your back

  4. Step 4

The aim, is to land on exactly the same spot as you took off. Your back, will land at the same spot as your knees

  5. Step 5

Now try to tuck so hard and fast that you almost land on your feet - BUT without traveling across the trampoline bed. Your feet and bottom land in the same spot as you knees where when they took off.

If you do not travel, you can move on to the next step...

  6. Step 6

From standing, (no bounce needed), list UP, TUCK and roll over to your bed, WITHOUT traveling across the bed. You back should now land where your feet where.

  7. Step 7

    Now practice your TUCK Jump.
Imagine you are in a chimney... jumping up the chimney, you are going to TUCK at the very top of the jump, and then come back down the chimney.
The somersault is the same action. Jump UP the chimney, somerault at the top of the jump, and come back down that chimney.

  8. Step 8

Jump 3 time with you arms above your head, then perform a TUCK JUMP (fast) and land

  9. Step 9

Jump 3 times with your arms above your head, TUCK and ROLL over on to you back.
If you do not travel at all, you are ready to land your somersault.

  10. Step 10

Jump 3 time with your arms above your head, TUCK HARD AND FAST, landing the somersault on your feet

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are not landing on your feet, go back to Hands and knees, practicing that Hard and Fast tuck.
  • If you are traveling from one end of the bed to the other, make sure you start on the very center of the trampoline, not at one end. Do not flip your shoulders and head down, but lift your bottom UP and BACK.
  • If you are falling forward as you land, try opening up a little earlier.
  • If you keep landing on your bottom, Hold the tuck tighter and longer.
  • Do not attempt Front Somersault until you have learned: How to Bounce, How to Do Seat Drops, Front Drops, back Drops, How to do perfect Tuck jumps, Straddle jumps and Pike Jumps.
  • Start the Somersault in the CENTer of the trampoline. NOT AT ONE END.
  • Only ever try when you are the only person on the trampoline.
