1
Consult your local university's writing center for basic assistance with resumes. Students and alumni typically receive complimentary reviews of resumes or cover letters from talented writers. Members of the public can sometimes contract with student writers.
-
2
Post an advertisement through online writing forums as you try to hire a resume writer. There are thousands of freelance writers who have experience in the professional world and look for jobs through such forums.

3
Find a resume writer for hire at a recruiting firm in your city. In addition to placing employees in open positions, these firms offer resume assistance for professionals. Prepare to pay a premium for these services if you are not a client.
-
4
Create a rough outline of your skills, education and experience to help the resume writer that you hire. You should consult job offer sheets, paychecks and other information that you have kept to compile this list. Avoid excessive detail and provide brief explanations for industry terms that a resume writer may not know.
-
5
Establish a reasonable budget before you negotiate with a potential resume writer. Post the median amount of money you are willing to pay to a writer based on your maximum limit and the lowest level you think a writer will work for. Allow writers to bid on the project to save on resume services.
-
6
Ask applicants for sample resumes before you make a final decision. Review the resumes they submit along with other resume projects they have worked on to determine their skill levels.
-
7
Choose an online resume writing company if you are looking for long-term resume assistance. There are dozens of legitimate consulting firms that will help you write your resume without in-person contact. The advantages of these companies include quick price quotes and extensive samples.

Tips & Warnings
Clarify the type of resume you desire when you advertise for a resume writer. A resume writer needs to know your vision for the ideal resume before he begins working on formatting and design. You should sketch out design aspects or look for templates you want to emulate when consulting with a resume writer.

That is because my clients respect my opinion that the people that I send over are a good use of their time. Without a good recruiter an individual needs to convince the resume reader that they are worth their time. Step 3 above says that local recruiting firms will write your resume for a fee. I find that advice questionable. I believe that in most states it is illegal to have a resume writing service under the same business entity as a recrui...
