Things You'll Need:
- Firearm
- Permit
- Bow
- Certification
-
Step 1
Enroll in Firearm Hunter Education to meet the requirements of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. This state law requires people who hunt in Nebraska to have a certificate of completion by Nebraska or their home state, if they are non-residents.
-
Step 2
Get the same certification required to hunt with a firearm by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission if you want to hunt with a crossbow.
-
Step 3
Be advised that any child under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a licensed hunter who is at least 19 years of age. While they are allowed to hunt game birds or small game animals, it is illegal for children under 12 years of age to hunt big game.
-
Step 4
Follow the sunrise and sunset restrictions on certain game. For instance, the hunting hours for antelope, bighorn sheep, elk and deer are between 30 minutes before sunrise and 30 minutes after sunset. Some game can be hunted anytime during the day.
-
Step 5
Determine the type of game you plan to hunt and the type of permit you need. Go to the "Permit Types and Fees" page on the NGPC website to locate the fee (see Resources below). You can follow the links to "Buy a Hunting Permit," or purchase your permit from a local vendor.
-
Step 6
Get familiar with the Nebraska hunting rules and regulations. Read the "Nebraska Hunting Guide" on the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission website (see Resources below). Any reported illegal hunting activity will be punished.
