Things You'll Need:
- Hunting license
-
Step 1
Keep your guns unloaded while traveling. Under the law, any loaded weapon in a vehicle (including planes and boats) subjects the owner to fines and the loss of a hunting license for up to 3 years.
-
Step 2
Limit your use of your car or boat to getting to your destination. Harassing or otherwise using your vehicle to upset animals is strictly illegal.
-
Step 3
Leave your automatic weapons at home. Alberta disallows the use of guns that can fire more than one shot per trigger pull.
-
Step 4
Take the meat from your kill with you. You are not allowed to simply kill game and then leave them there.
-
Step 5
Hunt only in the daylight hours. Hunting at night is forbidden by the Alberta government.
-
Step 1
Find a hunting expedition company in Alberta such as Hunt Alberta (see Resources below).
-
Step 2
Elect to hunt deer while camping the Canadian wilderness. Your guides will offer tips and lead you to little-known hunting spots.
-
Step 3
Sign up to go on a bear hunting expedition in Alberta. Your expedition will include guides, lodging and the permits needed to hunt black bear. Bear hunting is only available in the springtime.
-
Step 4
Have your expedition guides field dress your kills for you. Cleaning large game in the field can be a messy experience for untrained hunters. Most expeditions offer field dressing in the cost of the hunt.
-
Step 1
Apply for an export permit to bring back your kill with you when you remain in Alberta for more than a month after the kill.
-
Step 2
Obtain a federal Canadian export permit for wolf, grizzly bear or cougars you have legally killed in Alberta.
-
Step 1
Apply to the lottery to obtain a permit to hunt deer in a winter hunt run by the Alberta Fish and Wildlife Department (see Resources below).
-
Step 2
Expect to pay less for a license for this special hunt. The winter hunt is conducted to cull overpopulation of deer, so the license prices are lowered.
