Things You'll Need:
- Ammunition
- Rifle
- Hunting dog
-
Step 1
Prepare to hike. Partridges typically prefer locations at higher elevations.
-
Step 2
Look for the steepest slopes. Partridges use the steepness of hills as a getaway mechanism. They fly down instead of up to gain speed more quickly.
-
Step 3
Head for the west coast of America. Partridges can be found in large numbers in California, Oregon and Nevada.
-
Step 4
Scope out river canyons. These areas suit partridge well, and they can often be found on the cliffs.
-
Step 5
Check out the Mojave Desert. Focus on the ravines in the desert.
-
Step 1
Focus on the caliber of the gun you use, rather than on the manufacturer. People who hunt partridges do so with a wide variety of gun makes and models.
-
Step 2
Opt for a 12 gauge shotgun. This is a favorite of those who hunt since it is an affordable choice with good range.
-
Step 3
Choose a 20 gauge shotgun to ensure a faster kill. Partridges are hardy birds, and using a larger gauge shot will help make sure the bird you shoot dies quickly.
-
Step 1
Employ the time-tested strategy of running down partridge. Simply run at the birds. Once they drop off the edge of the cliff, aim and shoot.
-
Step 2
Stake out the partridge with 2 people and a dog. Have one person at the top of the ridge and the other below it. Have the dog flush birds into the air from the middle area.
-
Step 3
Avoid hunting partridge alone. Experts warn that, due to the harsh environments and sometimes extreme weather, it is best to hunt partridge with a friend.
-
Step 1
Keep your eyes on any bird you drop, since it is easy to lose a downed partridge in the rocky terrain.
-
Step 2
Call over your hunting buddy and whistle for your dog.
-
Step 3
Head towards the injured bird. Should the wounded bird revive, shoot him while he is on the ground.

on 10/12/2008 Things needed...a rifle? I think you meant a shotgun.
You might want to pick a gun in the second group of steps as well. One step says 12 gauge; another step says 20 gauge.
Some neat tips otherwise.
