Things You'll Need:

    Obtain Boar Hunting Permits

  1. Step 1

Visit the website of the Fish and Game Department of the state you wish to hunt boar in. Happily, licenses to hunt wild boar tend to be inexpensive.

  2. Step 2

Follow any hunting limits imposed by your state. Hunting more than state-determined limits is considered poaching and may subject you to fines.

  3. Step 3

Request maps of public wild pig hunting areas so that you are sure you are hunting legally.

  4. Choose a Weapon

  5. Step 1

Select a rifle, such as the Remington .308, with a scope. Many boar hunting enthusiasts prefer this rifle, but any legal caliber gun may be used.

  6. Step 2

Go for the more traditional bow and arrow. This is considered a classic boar hunting technique, but it can be dangerous if you do not kill the boar with your first arrow. Boars have sharp tusks and are not afraid to use them!

  7. Step 3

Forgo the use of dogs to bring down wild boar. This is considered cruel and is illegal in many states. Besides, it is very dangerous for the dogs. Many dogs have been killed by wild boar.

  8. Stalk the Boar

  9. Step 1

Wear clothes that do not rustle when you move. Boars have excellent hearing, and they will stay out of sight if they know you are there.

  10. Step 2

Leave everything but your weapon in the car. You can come back for your butchering supplies after you have killed your boar.

  11. Step 3

Watch for matted grass and boar droppings. Rooted-up areas of grass indicate that boar have been feeding in the area.

  12. Step 4

    Walk slowly, scanning for boar.

  13. Kill the Boar Humanely

  14. Step 1

Aim for the boar's shoulder when you shoot. A successful hit in this area will pierce through the boar's vital organs and kill it more quickly.

  15. Step 2

Pursue a wounded boar to finish the kill. Be very careful, as wounded boar tend to turn and charge their attackers. Having a knife handy will help you protect yourself.

  16. Step 3

Approach the carcass only after waiting at least 15 minutes after it has ceased to move. You do not want to be near those razor-sharp tusks should your boar suddenly get a second wind.
