Vermont has a long history of snowshoeing, and you can enjoy this outdoor winter sport if you plan a snowshoeing vacation to the state. You can plan a vacation through a travel agent or service that focuses on outdoor winter activities. Or you can simply choose snowshoeing trails you would like to trek and make hotel reservations near your trail choices.

Instructions

Gather Information About Snowshoeing the Green Mountains

  1. Step 1

Visit the Green Mountain Club website to gather information about snowshoeing trails in Vermont (see Resources below). The Green Mountain Club has been maintaining and disseminating information about Vermont's skiing, hiking and snowshoeing trails for nearly 100 years.

  2. Step 2

Click on the "Take a Hike" button on the left side of the Green Mountain Club home page. Select "Winter" from the pull-down menu that appears.

  3. Step 3

Read important safety information that is specific to Vermont's trails. Notice that white blazes (camouflaged areas of deep snow) may cause you to lose the trail during snowshoeing season.

  4. Plan a Guided Snowshoeing Package

  5. Step 1

Visit a travel company such as Adventure Guides of Vermont to plan a snowshoeing vacation to Stowe, where trails into the woods and mountains are available(see Resources below).

  6. Step 2

Elect to stay in lodging with your own private bath for the most privacy during your trip. The cost of lodging is included in the charge for your inclusive Vermont guided snowshoe vacation.

  7. Step 3

Choose to share a bathroom with other snowshoe travelers to save some money on your vacation.

  8. Step 4

Pay a fixed per-person price for your trip, which includes transportation, meals, guides on all snowshoeing hikes, lodging and pick up/drop off from the airport.

  9. Plan to Stay at a Traditional Ski Lodge

  10. Step 1

Reserve a room at any of Vermont's ski lodges to enjoy the group experience of hanging out in the cozy "great rooms" after a day of snowshoeing the local trails.

  11. Step 2

Visit a website such as Vermont Living to review a list of lodges and inns that cater to snowshoeing, as well as skiing vacations (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings
  • Rent snowshoes and other equipment while in Vermont to avoid having to lug lots of stuff onto the plane.
