Pensacola, a city in the Florida panhandle, is famous not just for its beaches, but also for some of its festivals. It's annual Mardi Gras festival is known throughout the world and draws droves of tourists every year. Flashy costumes, great music, fine dining and exuberant dancing all combine to make Mardi Gras in Pensacola one of the places to celebrate the holiday.

    Celebrate Mardi Gras in Pensacola

  1. Step 1

    Double-check that you have booked your tickets and reservations for the right time of the year. Mardi Gras never falls on the same dates from year to year.

  2. Step 2

    Head to the parade route a few hours early to ensure you get a good vantage point. People begin to congregate along the route gwo hours prior to the start of the parade.

  3. Step 3

    Speak to your hotel concierge or even ask a local to learn about events being held during Mardi Gras. Many of the krewes, or teams who put together Mardi Gras celebrations, have events that include food, live music and even arts and crafts. Many are free to guests; others ask for a small fee to help cover the cost of hosting the events.

    Rent or charter a boat to watch the fireworks during Mardi Gras. Many local yachts are available for parties during Mardi Gras, and they offer a great way to enjoy the holiday in luxury and privacy.

  5. Step 5

    Ride a bike through Pensacola. It is easier to find a place to park your bike than it is a rental car. In addition, some areas of Pensacola are perfect for bike tours during the day prior to the Mardi Gras parades.

  • Pensacola is near enough to both Mobile, Alabama, and New Orleans to make it a terrific starting point for a Mardi Gras tour of the Gulf Coast. Visitors to the area can celebrate Mardi Gras in three different venues in as many days with relative ease.
  • Don't be afraid to bring your children to Pensacola to celebrate Mardi Gras. Pensacola doesn't have the excessive atmosphere of New Orleans.
  • Be aware that accommodations can fill quickly in Pensacola, especially during Mardi Gras. Pensacola is a bustling tourist destination as it is, and during the Festival of Five Flags and Mardi Gras it is particular busy.
