Step 1
Be Passionate
Boring reviews get audiences into the same stupor - and they will tune you out. Be energetic, passionate, emphatic. Use powerful eye-catching headlines and words that stir up strong emotions or deep feelings in the mind of your reader.
Think about the headlines in tabloid newspapers - those should be the ones you model for writing your reviews. After all, if your headline doesn't grab a reader's attention, they will never end up reading what you wrote anyway. -
Step 2
Be Interesting
People read product reviews because they want to learn something new. They do it for relaxation and entertainment. Be interesting when writing your reviews. No matter whether you are praising or trashing the product, make sure you are providing value to your reader.
Add little stories into the review, crack a few jokes and keep things interesting. Don't be afraid to add your personality into your writing and act as if you are talking to a friend one on one about the product you are reviewing. -
Step 3
Be Honest
Don't even think about writing a review without first trying the product out. You may get away with it a few times - but when you get caught, you will lose all credibility instantly.
If you found something negative, don't be afraid to share this with your reader.
In fact, they will appreciate your honesty. -
Step 4
Be Detailed
Don't just write a bare bones review. You need to be as specific as possible and add the details you feel will help the reader make an informed buying decision.
Be sure to list as many pros and cons as you can think of, as no product is perfect.
Explain what benefits the reader will enjoy if they purchase the product, and why they should give up their hard earned money for it. -
Step 5
Be Consultative
Too many reviewers hesitate about making a recommendation. Don't be scared to go out on a limb. History is rife with examples of critics who condemned something that went on to be a best seller.
Sure, it may make you appear silly when you tear apart something the rest of the world is raving about. But if you don't offer a consultative recommendation, most people will ignore you anyway.
People read reviews because they want to know if buying the product will be worth their time and money. They look to you for a 'Yes' or 'No' answer. Give it to them.
