How to Make a Chef Salad
The ingredients you choose to put in a chef's salad are entirely up to you, which makes it a versatile, healthy and quick meal to prepare. The chef's salad originated as a combination salad prepared according to the chef's specialty, so as the chef you have the option to make it how you prefer. Choose a lettuce of your choice to cover the bottom of a bowl; chef's salads are often made with iceberg lettuce, but you can use other types as well. Tear or cut up the lettuce and fill a bowl about 1/4 to 1/2 way full.

Slice your vegetables to bite-size pieces. Common vegetables for a chef's salad include bell peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions and black olives. Place your vegetables on top of the bed of lettuce.

Slice a variety of meats such as turkey, ham and chicken and add them to your salad.

Add the remainder of your toppings to your salad. These may include shredded or cubed cheese, sliced hard-boiled eggs, bacon bits or croutons. Season your salad according to your preference. Serve the salad as-is or top with dressings and toss lightly.
