If you've ever been to a children's birthday party, you know the key to success is keeping kids entertained. When throwing a camo theme party, finding creative ways to adapt traditional games and activities is easy. So if camouflage and boot camp are on your agenda, you're in luck.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Iron on transfer letters
  • Raisins
  • Malted milk balls
  • Gummy worms
  • Toilet paper
  • Beach towels
  • Adult size camo clothing
  • Whistle
  • Dowel rods
  • String
  • Inflatable inner tubes
  • Trash cans
  • Tent stakes

Step1
Ask kids to bring white cotton T-shirts to the party. Then set up a station with iron-on transfer letters and let kids choose a nickname to put on the back of their shirt. Have an adult iron the name on and let kids wear their shirts during the activities.
Step2
Have kids sit in a circle and attend "Survival Training." Make up a story about how to survive in the wilds and have them eat silly things. Pretend raisins are ants, malted milk balls are snake eggs, and of course don't forget the gummy worms. Let the birthday child hand out the survival food.
Step3
Set up a First Aid Relay by breaking the kids into teams. Then they must select the biggest kid on the team to be the injured soldier. The soldier lies on the ground completely motionless and the group wraps them in a whole roll of toilet paper. Then they transport them onto a large beach towel and drag them to the finish line. Award camo theme prizes to the winning team and a special prize to the kids who were the wounded soldiers.
Step4
Adapt the game of Simon Says and call it Drill Sergeant Says. Have an adult dressed in camo clothing and armed with a whistle call out the commands. When someone messes up, they have the option of getting out of the game or doing push ups to stay in. If they choose push ups have the Drill Sergeant tell them to "Drop and give me 10."
Step5
Make up a special message, about the birthday child, using a secret code. Then give the party guests the key to the code and have them decipher it. The first one to guess the message wins a camo theme prize.
Step6
Play a version of Duck Duck Goose, but call it Tank Tank Grenade.
Step7
Set up an obstacle course and time kids as they take turns going through it. Pound eighteen-inch dowel rods into the ground and run string back and fourth from one to the other to simulate a barbed wire area to crawl under. Blow up inflatable inner tubes as tires for them to run through and finish the course off with hurdles. To make the hurdles use a small but sturdy trash can with handles and run a stake through the handle into the ground to ensure it doesn't fall over.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always plan more activities than you think you will need. Many times party games don't last as long as you think they will.
  • Visit a military surplus store for authentic decorations and gear.
