How to Choose a Birthday Gift for a Father
Let's face it, your father doesn't need another tie. He gets enough of those on Father's Day. For his birthday this year, come up with something spectacular, something he'll love. If you choose the right gift, every time he looks at it or uses it, he'll think of you.

1
Find out what your father is interested in. If you really think about it, you probably already know.

2
Consider something for his office. Most dads work hard to bring home the bacon, but being stuck at the office all day can be boring. Try a small punching bag or desk sandbox to help relieve frustration and relax. Handheld electronic games, that feature poker or blackjack, are great for breaks. And if his job requires a long commute or a lot of travel, consider an MP3 player or books on tape (or CD).

Be creative and make your dad something if you can't afford an extravagant gift. A wall calendar or photo album filled with pictures of the family are easy and personal gift options that are sure to make him feel good.

You'll rarely go wrong with sports. Tickets to a ball game are great, but if he likes the links, think about getting him a round of golf for two (or more) and one of the better courses in your area.

As cliche as it is, men love tools and gadgets. Is he in the middle of any home-based projects? A new cordless power drill would be perfect. Is he a tech geek? Maybe a wireless mouse or a flat screen LCD monitor would do the trick.

Give him some homemade coupons, redeemable for: lawn mowing, picture hanging or a night of babysitting, so that he can get out of the house. Your dad will understand if you don't have the money to buy him all the things you'd like to and would surely rather spend his Saturday afternoon in his recliner than mowing the lawn.
