How to Get a Hunting License in Massachusetts
Massachusetts offers a variety of game and hunting grounds to choose from during the hunting season. The state's many forests and waterfall-laden gorges make stalking game as much of an aesthetic experience as a hunting trek. 1
Get all your logistics down. You should know what you want to hunt, how long you intend to hunt and what kind of weapon you'll be using. Knowing these things will expedite the licensing process.
-
2
Get a Wildlands Conservation Stamp for a small fee. The stamp is required for all hunters. For residents of Massachusetts, you only need to buy the stamp once. Nonresidents, however, must pay the stamp fee for every Massachusetts hunting license bought.

3
Make sure you are eligible for a Massachusetts hunting license. Massachusetts recently enacted regulations regarding hunting education courses. Generally, you need to either have taken a hunting safety course or you need to be able to provide proof that you owned a hunting license from any state from a previous season. There are exemptions for military and other types of hunters, so check with the Massachusetts Division of Wildlife and Fisheries before you hunt. (See Resources below.)

4
Check for relevant licenses and discounts. Massachusetts offers residents a variety of licenses, many of which include discounts for special hunters. Retirement-age resident hunters, for example, receive a significant discount on licenses, while some disabled hunters can receive a license for free.

5
Choose either online licensing or the walk-in process. The online process provides all the necessary information and forms to buy your hunting license in one place. For those who prefer a face-to-face interaction, most hunting and sporting goods stores in all parts of the state sell hunting licenses.
