Kids have wonderful imaginations and often want to learn how to draw certain objects. If you're not the best freehand sketch artist, don't fret. In just a few steps, you can help your child draw a butterfly. Here's how.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Trace a dime on your paper. This is going to be the head of your butterfly.
Step2
Add features such as eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth and antennae to your butterfly. Be sure to give some character to each feature you draw. For a happy butterfly, use broad curving lines for a big smile. For a mean butterfly, use sharp lines to indicate pointed eyebrows.
Step3
Create a body for your butterfly by tracing half of a pen or pencil. Extend it from the head.
Step4
Place wings on either side of the body. An easy way to make a wing is to bend your index and middle finger, and then place those fingers' knuckles alongside the butterfly's body. Extend your fingers across the paper and trace both fingers. Repeat on the other side with your other hand.
Step5
Draw detail lines. This step is optional, depending on how detailed you want to make your butterfly. You might draw horizontal lines across the body. This will give the butterfly the look of a caterpillar. Also, sketch some gradations on the wings.
Step6
Color your butterfly. Pick a myriad of colors and go to town. There is no wrong way to color in your butterfly, so have at it and have fun.
