How to Make an Indiana Jones Costume

Harrison Ford's swashbuckling hero has been a Halloween favorite ever since George Lucas introduced Indiana Jones to the world in "Raiders of the Lost Ark." The costume isn't that hard to create, Jones went on his adventures in his version of "business casual".

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The fedora is the centerpiece of the Indiana Jones costume: brown with a darker band at the top, and preferably well-worn. It should look like it's been through tunnels under ancient temples and the high winds of middle eastern deserts.

  2. Step 2

The gun is optional, since Jones kept it hidden, but the whip is a must. For low-budget Indies, a satisfactory whip can be made out of tightly woven rope attached to a sawed-off broom handle.

  3. Step 3

The shirt is a light-colored, light fabric safari shirt with breast pockets. In "Temple of Doom," the right arm is gone. Put the shirt through a little wear to make it look authentic.

  4. Step 4

You'll notice that Indy wears a "fanny pack", a leather bag at his waist (to hold his gun, money, etc.) This is a good addition if you can find one, but wearing no bag is probably better than a silly-looking one.

  5. Step 5

Dark pants and work shoes complete the ensemble. Now you're ready to go exploring around the neighborhood.
